No, not all of the surgeries performed by Dr. Ishee require a patient to be placed under general anesthesia. There are many procedures and surgeries that can be performed under local anesthesia or a combination of local anesthesia, mild oral sedation, and/or tumescent anesthesia.

For example, Dr. Ishee performs “twilight liposuction” which is liposuction performed safely with the assistance of local anesthesia, tumescent anesthesia, and oral sedation. The patient is not “put to sleep” or placed on a breathing machine (ventilator) during the surgery. The patient remains awake yet comfortable and appropriately medicated allowing them to undergo the procedure while still being able to breathe easily and safely on their own.

Large surgeries and surgeries with multiple combined procedures do require a patient be placed under general anesthesia. Rarely today in clinical practice can you find a situation where there is one patient per Anesthesiologist.

Dr. Ishee’s office always has a physician on call. After hours, the on-call physician can be reached by calling our office phone number (337-456-3282) and speaking with the Answering Service who will connect you to Dr. Ishee or Dr. Duplechain, whoever is on call that evening or weekend.

Typical follow-up after surgery is around one week, and this usually includes evaluation for suture removal at that time. However, some very large and complex multi-procedure surgeries require an overnight stay in the hospital.
